Synopsis
After a Montreal teacher’s tragic suicide, Algerian immigrant Bachir Lazhar takes on the role of substitute teacher for the grieving class. As he helps the traumatized children heal, he must also conceal his own painful past and asylum-seeking status in Quebec.
